We awoke this morning to more sunshine and humidity. Had a lovely breakfast on the patio before embarking on our first of 4 days walking the Catalan coast (the northern portion of the Costa Bravo region).
the breakfast spread - wow! Kim was brave enough to try the local sausages in the front left of the pic

We asked for a picnic lunch to take with us. I think we have enough for the rest of the days hiking too. The sandwiches were lettuce tomato and cheese on a delicious bun. There are two boiled eggs and roasted almonds wrapped in foil also. The rest is pretty self-explanatory.
We are headed to the beach - the first stop on our walk today.
The driveway leaving the Casa Rural.
The start of the trail.
We walked along the River Fluvia.
You can see the Pyrenees in the background.
We walked through apple orchards. The Casa we stayed in was actually set in the midst of apple orchards. I kept expecting apples on the menu or in our lunch but never saw one off of the trees.
Now that´s a fishing pole.
Walking along the river.
A map of the beach area.
First view of the Mediterranean Sea.
The sand was really deep and soft and difficult to walk on.
Cooling my feet in the Mediterranean.
Even the tents in Spain are colorful.
We walked through the Aiguamolls Natural Park which protects the most important remaining wetlands on the northern Costa Brava. It is a network of freshwater and brackish lagoons, marshes, meadows, rice fields, etc.

This was an old building in the apple orchard.
We also walked along the cornfields.
Harvesting apples - I really want one!
A very unusual tree - you can tell how hot it is from how red my face is.

We´ve walked just over 9 miles today and my steps (which are 1 1/2 times as many as Kim´s 😀) are at 22,370. But, the day is not over...

The breakfast looks wonderful! I would not have risked the sausage; one never knows when such things can come back to haunt one lol! Did you know there was a fish in your picture of the River Fluvia? Your pictures are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a very busy day, filled with lots of amazing architecture.
ReplyDeleteToo hot for me though.
