Girona Spain

This morning we boarded the fast train (AVE) to Girona. Girona is a beautiful city in Catalonia, Spain with aprox. 100,000 people.

It is known for its medieval architecture.

The painted houses of the Jewish quarter overlooking the river Onyar.

There are lots and lots of steps in the old quarter.

The Girona cathedral, which has been used in many films as well as Game of Thrones, is the seat of the Roman Catholic diocese of Girona

The old city has fortress walls (Passeig de la Muralla) and spectacular views. The walls were constructed between the 11th and 15th centuries. The steps to reach the walkable area were quite steep.

And there were many of them

Old clay roofs

Interesting architecture

The last part of the wall as we walked back into the city.

Information about the bomb shelter built in 1936 during Civil unrest.

The Jardi de la Infancia shelter

This picture is for John. Yes they have fish in Spain and these were huge!

Brunch

A blurry pic of olive trees as we drive 100 kph

Our lodging for the night

Kim trying to get the AC working because they are having unseasonably warm weather. Go figure...

But we have a pool

For dinner this evening we decided to dine at our B&B (called a rural casa) since we didn't want to take a 25 minute walk into town. We figured 5 1/2 miles was enough for today. This is salted cod with tomatoes, onions and olives on a pool of olive oil.

Dining al fresco on a beautiful evening.

For some reason it appears to be a big deal when they serve you bread and water with your meal.

Oops! I forgot to take a picture of our main course, which was aubergine (eggplant) with meat and cheese. I obviously went straight to the dessert - a chocolate torte with pear.

Sleep should come easy tonight.

  2. Beautiful!!! Oh those stairs. Reminds me of another trip. Holy Moly, that is what you call "the Green Room". Looks comfy though. As long as Kim got that AC going. So glad you posted food pics, you know how I love that. Hope you are resting well while I'm writing this.
