A Day in Barcelona

We were hoping to get away from hot weather but that didn’t happen. It was very warm and humid here today. It probably wasn’t the best day to get in an open air tour bus of the city at 3:30 am Texas time either. Between the time difference, no sleep on the plane and the heat, we were both struggling to keep our eyes open. We did manage to see some sights though and I’ve captuted them for you below.

Aerobus from the airport to the city.

Our day began in this square as we departed the Aerobus from the terminal to Placa d’Espanya. It is the gateway to the great park of Montjuic, the setting for the 1992 Olympic Games.

 Gaudi's dream

The Sagrada Familia is still under construction. Building began in the late 19th century and is now funded by churchgoers and visitors.

It is Gaudi's dream and one to which he devoted much of his life. When he died in 1926 only one of the towers had been completed.

Now this is a lamp post.

Modernism - another of Gaudi's works built between 1904 and 1906

Barcelona is truly a city with amazing architecture.

Street market.

A couple of things that I've found a bit annoying:
Automatic toilets that flush the second you get the seat cover placed
The astounding number of Europeans who fill the sidewalks and storefronts smoking

It's been a long 47 hours since I've been to bed so I'm off. Next stop Girona.
