Cadaques to Port De La Selva

It's a better start to the day with a fully charged phone for picture taking. Our hike today is shown as 13.2 km, approx 3.5 hours with no stops, and a total elevation gain of 1622'. The maximum elevation is 1110' and we went from sea level to 1110' at the very beginning of the hike

Started off with a breakfast buffet - there were 4 tables of food and drinks. I carbo-loaded again. 😃

Here's the map of our route. Sorry it's so wrinkled. I forgot to take a pic before I had it crammed in my pocket all day.

One last look from our room this morning.

The hike started right in the middle of town. Actually it was in the middle of the road. The road split and there were some rock steps that went right up the mountain. This picture was taken right after we climbed the steps and started on the trail.

A view of the town as we keep climbing.

The trail is marked with red and white paint.

And we just keep going up.

And up, further and further away from town.

Much of the trail was nothing but rocks and very difficult to walk on.

John, here's a rock wall needing some repair.

More rocky trail, still going up.

A sign to Port De La Selva

Still going up.

The town is getting further away.

A view back at the hill we hiked over yesterday.

Taking a break.

More rocks to walk on.

A very interesting stone hut. Kim was intrigued by how they built the flat stone roof.

And it's perfectly round.

Looking at the Serra de Albera mountain range. The clouds are covering Puig Neulos, the highest mountain in the range.

We finally reached the highest point of the hike and we can see the Mediterranean around 3 sides.

You can hear the wind in this video if it willmplay. I forgot to mention we had a head wind of 20-30 mph all day. It was 34 mph when we reached our inn.

We began a slow descent and began winding around the other side of the mountain. You can see the trail across from us.

Rose hips.

More rocky trail that's so hard on the feet.

Olive orchard.

We are climbing again. We had several steep climbs ahead of us (more of that undulating up and down).

Another rest. Quite a view for a break.

First glimpse of our destination far, far in the distance.

Looking back up the trail I've just come down

And looking down the trail yet to go.

Aha, our destination is getting closer.

There were lots of cactus on the trail today. We also spotted lots of poison oak which is probably what got me yesterday.  We stopped at the farmacia before heading out this morning for some ointment.

More olives.

We've arrived!!!

Beautiful beach with lots of windsurfers taking advantage of the high wind. I forgot to mention that it blew in a cold front and only got to about 78° today. Yay!!!

Our room.

View from our room.

Sitting on a bench enjoying the cool weather and the view.

Our accommodation is the Hotel and Spa Port Cristo. Since it is a spa, Kim treated me to a massage for my birthday. It was so nice after three days of hiking.

View from our dinner table.

Costa sea-bream with garlic, zucchini, aubergine and haricot verts.

...and pizza! 😂

11 1/2 miles (what happened to 8?) 24,944 steps, and a gazillion floors.
Good night!

  3. Late on my birthday wishes, but, retrospectively, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! That head wind--whew. Makes the journey so much the harder. Rocks, rocks, and more rocks. Wow.
